There's something to be said for experience. At Sojern, our efforts are the result of a seasoned team of senior management professionals - each possessing a specialization in such areas as business, digital media, technology and travel that directly impact the company's success.
Gordon Whitten
Founder and CEO (a.k.a. the buck stops here…)
Background:
A passion for innovation has fueled Whitten’s record of success as founder of Income Dynamics, Inc. which was acquired by Intuit in 2003. As vice president for Intuit, his launch of several new consumer products increased revenue in his business unit ten-fold in just three years. Gordon was named by Ernest & Young as Entrepreneur of the Year in the Iowa-Nebraska region in 2003. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration at Hastings College and was inducted into its Athletic Hall of Fame in 2000.
Preferences:
Balancing his business innovation with family life, Whitten enjoys spending time with his three children, getting behind the wheel of a fast car and cheering on the Nebraska Cornhuskers football team (go big red).
Favorite Destinations:
Caribbean and Orlando, Florida – anywhere an adventure might take him.
Bill Fisher
Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer (a.k.a. he who is or will be blamed…)
Background:
This seasoned business executive (another way to say old) and technology investor traces his experience through service as a director for several prominent public companies an ea number of private firms. He was also founder and CEO of TSAI (NASDAQ: ACIW). He also served on the board of Hypercom (NASDAQ: HYC), West, Inc. (NASDAQ: WSTC), TriZetto Group (NASDAQ: Tzix) and Bank of America Merchant Services (NASDAQ: BPI). Fisher was a division president at both CSG (NASDAQ: CSGS) and First Data Corp (NYSE: FDC). He holds an undergraduate degree in management from Indiana State University and an MBA from the University of Nebraska.
Preferences:
His business travels have taken him all over the world; however, he always found his way back. His wife, Kay, was usually glad to see him. He has three sons and enjoys any time he can spend with any of them and their families. Their favorite spot for years has been boating (and eating) at the Lake of the Ozarks.
Favorite Destinations:
Anywhere with his family but always with his wife in Maui, Hawaii.
Matt Arkin
Chief Revenue Officer
Background:
Arkin brings more than 15 years of online media sales and revenue growth experience to the management team. He has served as VP of Sales at MarketWatch.com for seven years, headed Sales and Operations at TACODA for three years and then was SVP of Sales at AOL/Platform A. Under his leadership, his team was listed in Forrester’s studies as one of the most productive and top growing sales teams. He has been recognized as an innovator in the online advertising industry and has been cited in dozens of industry publications. Arkin graduated from California Polytechnic University with a bachelor’s degree in Marketing & Management.
Preferences:
Matt and his wife, Cindy, enjoy spending their “leisure time” with their three children and their sporting activities. He also enjoys playing golf and a good glass of California vino.
Favorite Destinations:
An adventure back to Africa, this time taking his children, tops Arkin’s favorites list.
Dwight Hanson
Chief Financial Officer
Background:
Playing by the numbers is what drives Dwight to succeed. With over 20 years experience helping organizations through IPOs, acquisitions, product and company launches, and FDA approval processes, Hanson’s comprehensive and diverse background is an asset to Sojern. He was previously the CFO with Eleos, a cancer therapeutic biotech firm, and also served as the CFO for ACI Worldwide, a publicly traded software company, where he managed staff in ten countries. Hanson was a partner at Affiliated Management Resources and with the accounting firm of Coopers & Lybrand. He is a CPA and holds a B.A. in accounting from Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa.
Preferences:
When not crunching numbers, Hanson can be found spending time with his wife, Kim, and their four sons at sporting events or on a golf course. He also admits to being a big fan of The Office and spends a lot of time laughing out loud.
Favorite Destinations:
Whether driving a jet ski or a golf club, the Hansons enjoy vacationing in the Florida Keys and in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Khan Smith
Senior Vice President - Product Management, Chief Privacy Officer
Background:
Smith is a lifetime media professional and has worked for Avenue A (aQuantive) where he was responsible for publisher strategy and Microsoft where he was senior product planner driving MSN’s audience segmentation solutions. Smith also worked at TACODA as Vice President of Product Management & Marketing where he successfully built out the TACODA product and platform strategy while also holding the role of Chief Privacy Officer. Most recently, Smith was at ShortTail media as Vice President of Product Management and Chief Privacy Officer. Khan earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Washington with a minor in music.
Preferences:
Khan enjoys spending time with his wife, Eve, and their son Gryphon at their home in Atlanta. When not hanging out with the family, Khan enjoys building, collecting and watching anything about cars and motorcycles. Smith often wishes Jay Leno was his Uncle and would bequeath his collection of fine autos and motorcycles to him. Jay….will you adopt Khan?
Favorite Destinations:
Family defines Khan’s favorite destinations which include places like Greece, New York, and Seattle.
Duane Woerth
Senior Vice President Airline Relations
Background:
When it comes to air travel, Woerth has the advantage of perspective that has put him behind the controls. He served as president of the Air Line Pilots Association, representing more than 64,000 pilots working for more than 41 airlines in the U.S. and Canada. He served on the NWA Board of Directors from 1993-1999. He also was chairman of several governmental commissions focused on security and air traffic control modernization. As a pilot with the U.S. Air Force and the Air National Guard, Woerth served his country during wartime. He earned a master’s in public administration from the University of Oklahoma and graduated from the University of Nebraska with a bachelor’s degree in business administration.
Preferences:
With a home on the Gulf of Mexico, it’s not surprising that Woerth and his wife, Sharon, enjoy boating and are both avid golfers. Having spent 18 years in the nation’s capitol, the pair are also self-described “political junkies” but not too “wonkish.”
Favorite Destinations:
After 31 years with the airlines and flying to destinations that include everywhere in the world except Antarctica, travel remains a high priority. Several snow skiing trips in the winter are a must. In addition, Australia and South Africa are among favorite places. Topping the list would have to be visiting Ireland with wife Sharon, an Irish citizen.
Tom Boje
VP of Operations (a.k.a. who Fish usually blames it on…)
Background:
Boje’s experience ranges from information technology operations and corporate administration t executive management and international business. In a career that spanned more than 20 years at ACI (NASDAQ: ACIW), Boje was Managing Director of Europe, Middle East and Africa business and served most recently as CIO and corporate VP. He graduated with a business degree from the University of Nebraska.
Preferences:
Boje and his wife, Shirley, enjoy live music, travel, gardening, cooking and entertaining. He also spends time bike riding and enjoying the family’s three children.
Favorite Destinations:
You’ll find the Bojes touring wineries, dining, hiking and enjoying the picturesque beauty of California’s central coast.
David Stokes
General Counsel & Secretary
Background:
After more than 25 years in the legal profession Stokes has heard all the jokes about attorneys – but still enjoys what he does and takes his position very seriously. Prior to joining Sojern, Stokes was chief legal officer with Prism Technologies, an internet security technology management and licensing firm. He also spent more than 15 years as general counsel at ACI Worldwide (NASDAQ: ACIW), working with technology and banking organizations in multiple countries. He graduated from the University of Nebraska with a bachelor’s degree in business administration and from Creighton University School of Law.
Preferences:
Stokes and his wife, Mary, enjoy spending time with their three children at sporting events, golfing or snow skiing. You can find them every year behind the dugout at nearly every College World Series baseball game.
Favorite Destinations:
Stokes enjoys traveling to San Francisco and Scottsdale. He says that someday we’ll find him learning about international communities by living abroad for extended periods of time.
Carey Rademacher-Gille
Director of National Accounts
Background:
Rademacher has a real passion for building and launching new product ideas. She has been a featured guest in national media such as CNN Headline News and has been quoted in publications such as the Wall Street Journal and U.S. News and World Report. While working for Intuit, she led her team in the successful launch of two nationally marketed product lines.
Preferences:
You will often find Rademacher on a sunny beach with her two sons. However, as a frequent traveler, she most treasures time at home engaged in a serious game of UNO or a wrestling match.
Favorite Destinations:
Maui, Hawaii
Patrick Fisher
Director of Product & Partner Management
Background:
A natural inclination to remain in a constant state of motion has made Fisher an asset in a company focused on travelers. His career has taken him from private investment manager to wealth management advisor, to entrepreneur with a chain of successful coffee franchises. Fisher gave up his flip-flops and shorts for more conventional attire in an unconventional business when he joined Sojern. He holds a degree in business management from the University of Arizona.
Preferences:
Fisher enjoys all things outdoors – from fishing and hunting with Dad and brothers, to boating and beaches with his wife, Andi, and their son, Ryan. A true adventurer, his travels have taken him around the world, from the Bahamas to Seattle to the Cape of Good Hope. He’s also right at home enjoying fine wine, listening to live music and sitting in the audience of a live show.
Favorite Destinations:
Travels often take Fisher outside the ordinary, from Cape Town, South Africa, to the Papagayo Peninsula of Costa Rica with his family.
Chad Bokowski
Director of Product Development
Background:
Making technology do what you need it to do, Bokowski has spent his career developing IT applications for the online world. He started as a developer for the Internet group at TransTerra, now known as TD AMERITRADE, before partnering with others to launch eOneGroup. Together, the partners developed fully integrated ecommerce applications for Omaha Steaks, Tommy Hilfiger, YKK Zippers, May Company, BIC Pens USA and others. He was also a senior engineer and software architect for Intuit, where he directed technology teams to develop the framework and implement complex system designs for several online consumer products.
Preferences:
With Bokowski’s passion for raising koi, he likes to ensure that nothing “gets away.” He has been known to dig holes, fill them with water and add fish.
Favorite Destinations:
Bokowski proves that it’s not just where you are, but what you’re doing that produces the best results. His favorite combination – a warm beach, in a lounge chair, with a bucket of Coronas, chips and guac, along with his family. Preferably, the beach would be located in Cozumel, Mexico.
