FAQ Frequently Asked Questions

What does Sojern do?

Sojern is travel’s leading data-driven performance marketing engine. The company maximizes direct revenue and profitability for global travel brands by delivering consumers who convert. Combining our Sojern Travel Platform with billions of real-time travel intent signals, Sojern matches consumers with targeted offers across online and mobile channels. Currently one of the fastest growing travel tech companies, Sojern works with top travel brands and independent hotels in North America, Latin America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific.

What makes Sojern’s platform different from other programmatic buying platforms?

Sojern reaches more than 350 million in-market travelers per month. With the bulk of our reach coming from airline relationships and data partners, Sojern is the only data-driven audience engagement platform that leverages billions of traveler data points and massive multi-channel inventory to deliver one-to-one conversations at scale.

What makes Sojern’s data so different?

Sojern’s unique data set provides actionable insights that include more than 40 different parameters, such as travel purchase patterns, top destinations, dates of travel, average trip length, travel frequency, average number of travel activities, and percent audience overlap with other data sources and many more.

Who are Sojern’s partners?

We work with leading domestic and international airlines, travel meta search engines, online travel agencies, hotel deal websites, railway service providers, hotels, and more.

Does Sojern do business outside the US?

We have relationships with top global travel companies. We can deliver our service anywhere in the world. We have EMEA and APAC offices in London, Singapore, and Dubai.

Is Sojern Publicly Owned?

Sojern is a privately held company funded by Norwest Venture Partners, Trident Capital, Focus Ventures, and Industry Ventures; four of the most respected venture capital firms in the world.

What is Sojern’s Privacy Policy?

Read our policy. If you have any questions about it, don’t hesitate to contact us.

Where does Sojern get their inventory?

Sojern has two sources of inventory. The first is through our proprietary online and print boarding passes. The second is through RTB (Real-Time Bidding) via all of the leading ad exchanges. This brings our effective reach to well over 95% of sites on the web.

Why is your intent data more effective than data purchased via third-party data providers or DMPs?

Third-party providers can only see when a user shows proclivity to travel but not actual intention, therefore the targeted user may actually not be in-market. Sojern is able to distinguish when a user intends to travel and is able to activate the data on behalf of our advertisers.

What types of brand solutions do you have?

Sojern’s extensive traveler audience enables marketers to reach their target audience at the right time. This can be achieved with high impact placements such as large display ad sizes, video, and dynamic creatives.

How does display advertising work?

Display advertising is the placement of ads within content on a web page. Display ads appear in different formats, including banners, video, or sponsored content. The more relevant the display ad is to the user, the better it performs. Sojern maximizes direct revenue and profitability for global travel brands by delivering these ads to consumers most likely to convert. Combining the use of our Sojern Travel Platform with billions of real-time travel intent data points, Sojern matches the right consumers with targeted offers and presents those offers in the most effective format, enhanced for both online and mobile channels.

What is programmatic buying?

Programmatic buying is the process of bidding, purchasing, displaying, and optimizing online ads in real-time, using data and technology to execute campaigns. With the introduction of programmatic buying, Sojern is able to use its unique data set and audience profiles to bid on inventory in real time. This translates to more accurately serving travelers ads that are relevant to their interests and preferences. Net result being that the right message in the right format is delivered to the right traveler at the right time.

How does Sojern’s data compare to the competition?

Through strategic partnerships with major airlines, online travel agencies, meta search sites, data exchanges, and other travel companies, we collect and curate more than one billion travel data points worldwide. We have unparalleled access to highly relevant, qualified travel audiences and their intent data. This unique and exclusive access enables us to connect you to your most valuable audiences — those most likely to convert for you — at multiple touch points at scale.

Third-party providers can only see when a user shows proclivity to travel but not actual intention, therefore a targeted user may actually not be in-market. Sojern is able to distinguish when a user intends to travel and is able to activate the right audience on behalf of its advertisers.

What is a pixel and how is it used?

A pixel is a small piece of computer code you place on your website that identifies how a visitor interacts with your website. When a user engages with your ad, a cookie with a unique ID is placed on their browser. When the same user visits your website, the unique cookie ID is found by the pixel. The pixel then matches the ID to the viewed ad. A pixel is used to track conversions and segment audiences, making it easy to measure the overall impact of an ad campaign.

How does Sojern ensure my ads will appear on brand-safe sites?

Depending on the needs of the campaign and the requirements of the client, Sojern employs several strategies to maintain brand and contextual safety. For the most restrictive targeting, Sojern uses a white list to ensure delivery to a subset of websites. We have developed an extensive black list to protect against known objectionable websites. In addition, we partner with leading third-party solutions like Double Verify and Integral to provide more stringent protections against objectionable content and access to controls for only showing ads above the fold and reducing duplicate ad displays.

What types of pricing models do you offer?

Your campaign’s success is our priority. That’s why Sojern will help you pick a pricing model that works for the goals and objectives you’re trying to reach.

What reporting and insights do you provide?

Sojern can provide insights into campaign statistics, including the number of impressions, clicks, and conversions and the click-through rate (CTR) and conversion rate (CVR). Additional insights can include — but are not limited to — identifying layers of customer behavior not frequently seen, such as optimal audiences, flight patterns, length of stay, and frequency of travel.
